Kappa Phi Lambda is an organization which prides itself on a sense of commitment to cultural diversity and strong bonds of sisterhood. However, another primary focus is our dedication to the community. Community service and philanthropy is largely what has made us the strong and independent women we are today. Philanthropy Kappa Phi Lambda's national philanthropy is NAPAWF, which stands for National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum, an organization dedicated to fighting different problems faced by Asian/Asian American Women. The founding members identified 6 issue areas to serve as the foundation and platform for NAPAWF's work: Civil Rights, Economic Justice, Educational Access, Ending Violence against Women, Health, and Immigrant and Refugee Rights. Each year, Kappa Phi Lambda donates thousands of dollars nationwide to help fund NAPAWF in its advocacy effort of such rights. Our goal is to empower women living in poverty, fear, and illness. Locally, our chapter also donates to Apna Ghar, a domestic violence shelter serving primarily Asian women and children based in Chicago. Community Service Every year, Kappa Phi Lambda engages in service in the community on a regular basis. In the past, our community service efforts included:
Asian/Asian American Youth Service We have been able to successfully find community service events that are not only rewarding, but also fun. Not only do our events reflect our cause, we were also able to communicate with the people we service and feel that our efforts have contributed to a part of the lives of people we help. For more information about community service, please contact our Community Service Chair Crystal *élevé* Zhang for more information.
